SoloHill Awarded New Patent for Making Influenza Vaccine
SoloHill Engineering, Inc. is leading the way in the race to bring influenza vaccines more quickly to the public.  The company has extensively researched and tested new technology for making influenza vaccine using VERO cells, sera-free media, and microcarriers.  Current influenza vaccines distributed in the U.S. are grown in chicken eggs – an outdated method with a variety of issues.  SoloHill has demonstrated small-scale feasibility of a cell-based protein-free process and was recently awarded a patent for the technology.

The issuance of the patent, titled METHOD AND DEVICE FOR PRODUCING VACCINE, #7,534,596 B2, is the culmination of extensive influenza vaccine research performed at SoloHill, and was funded in part by SBIR grants from the National Institutes of Health.  SoloHill has also completed additional research to expand the scope of application to include other cells and other viruses.  As a result, the company has filed a Continuation in Part (CIP) with the USPTO.

SoloHill is currently collaborating with two large, foreign vaccine manufacturers and the company is intensively conducting  research and development to (1) adapt the technology to rabies vaccine production, (2) further optimize the process and (3) couple the technology with disposable bioreactor technology.  Please contact us at info@solohill.com if you are interested in collaboration, licensing of this technology, or further information.
