SoloHill Engineering explores disposable technologies through in-house testing of SoloHill microcarriers in ATMI® LifeSciences’ PadReactor™ system.
SoloHill Engineering and ATMI® LifeSciences have initiated collaborative efforts to demonstrate the utility of SoloHill microcarriers in ATMI’s disposable PadReactor™ single-use bioreactor systems. The ongoing studies are designed to optimize growth of various anchorage-dependent cell lines, including those employed for generation of human and animal vaccines and human stem cells used for cell therapies, on SoloHill microcarriers in the disposable system. SoloHill and ATMI’s research teams are engaged in activities aimed at providing innovative solutions for manufacturing processes. SoloHill is currently developing methods for microcarrier-to-microcarrier serial passage in closed bioreactor trains for expansion of “seed” cells for large bioreactors. This novel microcarrier-based technology is an attractive replacement platform for currently used open systems such as roller bottles and cell cube/factories because these latter systems are costly, labor intensive and require large footprints. ATMI’s single-use PadReactor™ and Nucleo™ disposable bioreactors have been shown to provide enhanced cell density and productivity with conventional microcarrier technologies and provide an ideal and logical extension of SoloHill’s breakthrough microcarrier platform.
